Hello. I have a modified fat bob style fuel tank and it is the reason why my speedometer cable is broken all the time and i'm tired of fixing it .What really bothers me is that I do not know how much fuel I have.Does anyone have any idea how to replace a fuel tank cap with fuel cap gauge?I need something just to have an idea of what's going on about the amount of fuel.
Thanks
I have seen some aftermarket caps with a bar like gauge in them, running off a small battery. Don't know if they still make them or how they worked. I've got some theories on making a gauge based on the capacitive effect of a wire in the vent tube versus the fuel, but I never pursued it.
If you know why your speedometer cable is breaking, I think you would be better served by fixing that issue, than expending energy trying to jury rig some kind of fuel gauge. Once you do that, you can go back to using your trip odometer to figure your range, like most of us have done since the beginning of time.
It's also kinda nice to know how fast you're going.

If you keep fixing a cable the same way and it keeps breaking then you are doing something wrong.
Could be the wrong length cable or putting too much angle on the speedo sensor or it could be you are using a cheap Chinese knock off cable.
Without more information or pictures we can't do much for you.
When you install a speedo cables you can't have any hard angles or it will break.
Leon, hi from the UK. There is a stack of experience in here and given the right info and some patience we can fix a lot of stuff. So pay attention to advice on your speedo cable and we may even be able to sort out a fuel guage. Is your tank two-piece or a one-piece integral tank?
