Hello all on here !! seems my engine oil is
leaking into primary case on my 80 inch evo . Does any one have any ideas why this is happening and what I need to do to fix this Thanx for any replys
The only way your oil cold be leaking into the primary is through your mainshaft seal. If the umbrella valves in the rockers are shot (not opening) you could have to much crankcase pressure. If the breather valve in your cam chest is plugged or out of time that also could cause to much crankcase pressure (stock are only plastic). Your motor could be sumping, which means the return check valve in the oil pump is not holding allowing oil to drain back into the case and if your mainshaft seal is no good it will get into the primary.. Is your motor a top or bottom breather? Year and model? You can try removing the primary and alternator and replace the seal and go from there... Do you has A Factory Service Manual?

Replace this seal and spin spacer if grooved or replace it also if it has already been spun since the seal gets full of grit and cuts into the harden metal.
Also, on your older bikes, the casting can crack. So be sure to look closely for cracks. If seal looks good, or new seal fails to stop it, may need to remove stator to check behind for cracks in crank case..
M8 problem is a different problem having to do with a redesigned vent system for the primary.

I have an 89 FLHTC, and this was my write up last year when this happened. Hopefully, on your bike, it's only the engine case seal and not a bad case insert.
I recommend buying new spacer, if there is a groove. You can buy it at the dealership and inexpensive. I just changed my primary fluid, and the fluid level is correct.

As I recall, that was not an uncommon problem on the '89s. It happened to a buddy of mine. For a long time the MoCo was replacing the left cases even if out of warranty, but that was a loooooooong time ago.
