Default 1996 Road King Redo

I bought a S&S V111 to replace the original 80ci motor in my 96 Road King. I will try to update this post with the progress of the redo. The engine is at my indy right now and he will be starting the project next week.
I also bought a D&D FatCat 2 to 1 exhaust. I listed the old engine in the marketplace under Evo parts if anyone is interested. The Thunderheader exhaust system is for sale too. https://www.hdforums.com/forum/evo-e...-complete.html

Just my opinion but I think that black tank with the HD script is one of the best looking tanks of all time. Will be interested in how it goes.

Yeah, I dig the bike and would rather customize it my way than buy a new bike.

Got the S&S V111 in. No problems, runs great. Still breaking it in. Did the initial 50 mile break-in by the book, then changed the oil and filter. Put another 400 miles on over the weekend, so I will be changing the oil and filter again soon (500 miles). Then once again at 1000 and it will be broken in. Experienced the rev limiter kick in (Super Stock ignition) a few times over the weekend. I think it's set around 4,250 rpm. I also got a D&D 2 to 1 with the quietest baffle.

I really like the gloss black (powder coat?) covers!
If she runs as nice as she looks... home run, touch all the bases!

The SS 111 is on my list of things to do. Everything I've read about it is fantastic. That black chrome is the way to go. Looks like there is more room between the frame and engine.

I'd rather have a updated modified Evo Road King over the new models as well. I just need to get mine up to that point.

I did a lot of research on exhaust systems before going with the D&D. I wanted 2 to 1 (I don't like the way true duals look with that weird bend), I wanted a high performance exhaust, and I wanted black, so I was looking at Basani, Thunderheader, etc. After doing my research I found that D&D, even though they might cost a bit more, is a good company that produces a high quality exhaust and they are made in Fort Worth, Texas.

I mentioned this in the "Belt Life" thread, but thought it should be included here too.

Went out for a ride last Saturday in the Northern California hills, towards Bullards Bar Reservoir. The rev limiter recently stopped coming on, so I was having fun doing 50 mph, 3rd gear roll ons and of course staying in it through 4th, then 5th, look down and I'm going 100, so back it off some and cruise, but the motor felt like it had a lot left. So I'm cruising along and see a 40 mph sign coming up, downshift to 3rd and noticed that I lost my engine braking and no more drive. Pull over and the first thing I do is look at the belt and it's gone. I have AAA and cell reception, so I called them and settled in for nice, hot, long boring *** wait. It took about 1.5 hours for them to get there.

So, I'm getting a new S&S heavy duty belt, pulleys, and a swing arm upgrade kit.

The belt was 22 years old and I have about 36K on the bike. Waiting for the tow.
