Wouldn't the shifter shaft visible from the primary? He said no hole in the primary I think.

I'm familiar with my FXR, not sure about other years. I've been slowly reworking my FXR updating style and function.
Vulcan Engineering has FXR parts, I haven't bought any so I can't vouch for the company or product. FXR parts have gone up in price lately.
I would just get a PARTS manual and plug those numbers in an eBay search and start there.
Mid controls are the way to go on an FXR.
