Havent had any issues with my bike being overheated in 100+ weather but I have become overheated. When riding in hot weather like that its like standing in front of a 100+ degree blast furnace! Heres what I did and it was AMAZING!
1. Buy a bag of ice at the gas station or wherever
2. Tuck in your t-shirt and empty your pockets
3. Dump as much ice into your shirt as you can
4. Ride as long as youre cool
6. If your mouth is dry stick your hand in your shirt and grab a piece of ice to pop in your pie hole!
You may look funny but Ill tell you it makes your HOT AS HELLS BASEMENT ride a million times better!
Well, I may try the ice and or wet shirt method... I did throw my hoodie on for a bit today and it made a difference.. I can see the sealed in cold/wet idea making sense..
last year, I ran through Arizona, 110 and miserable. I also went over on my oil change and ran it hard returning to Atlanta... took out a lifter on that trip, I wasnt happy.....
As for syn, it makes perfect sense. However, in the car world, my personal experience hasn't been good and I simply will not run it.. I've seen more unexplained oil related failures with it than dino oil.. my personal truck has 410k on whatever is on sale with 5-10k intervals.. I tried synthetic in my evo and it made a ton more noise.. again, it's not for me, I'll just short change the dino.
I've not had any trouble with my Evos in hot weather. My sense of them is that I run out of endurance long before the engine does. That goes double if we're riding two-up. My wife will want breaks sooner than I will.
If it's going to be crazy hot, I'll try to put the miles behind me either early in the morning or later in the day. Find a place to put up and cool off in the middle of the afternoon.
Don't much like riding in the dead of night, though. Even with the TruckLite LED's on the ElectraGlide, there's just so much less reaction time.
Not related to bike cooling but for the op:
Buy yourself a mesh jacket - really like my new Harley Wind Tunnel jacket and also get the cooling vest. Every gas stop, wet the vest again and squeeze out excess water...You won't believe the difference in cooling with this combo!

Reason: error
I'll add that I highly recommend getting either an oil cooler with a built in thermostat or buy a separate oil thermostat. Too cold of oil isn't good either.
