OP if you're gonna use the starter to pump the oil back into the oil bag remember not to try and do it all at once,
Your starter is an electric motor with nothing to cool it so run it a bit and then give it some time to cool off before running it again.

Again, thanks for all the advice.
Rather than start a new thread i have another question......leading on from the last.

The carb is a S&S super E shorty. i'm trying to get the float chamber off and have removed three screws.....all I can see.
Looking at diagrams it seems there maybe a fourth? Any one know?

It still seems very secure and I don't want to force it off in case there is a nother screw

Answered my own question....there is a fourth screw.
Long one associated with the injection fitting.
Carb looked suprisingly clean, so going to risk some petrol and see if she fires......but that'll have to wait till tommorrow.

Wink

Regarding your E carb, S&S are as good as the MoCo with their literature, so go to their website and download the pamphlet on your carb - then you'll know next time! IIRC they also do a tuning pamphlet as well.

A quick question regarding the Super E carb.......

I took off the S&S air filter, and took off the float chamber.
It looked remarkably clean so put it back together for a trial start.
Putting back the air filter back plate it is held in place by 3 allen bolts and the larger breather bolts at the top..........one of the 3 screws had been stripped by a previous owner and held in place with Loctite.
As with the 2 screws and breather bolts, the back plate is very secure I was going to leave the stripped bolt out.
The question is......do I need to plug the hole where the bolt was? I could temporarily Loctite the bolt in place as the PO, but i'd rather leave it out incase it got loose and sucked into the engine

Repair the stripped thread with a Heli Coil or better yet a Timesert. It will be as good as new.

In time yes, but in the meantime I'm just seeing if the engine starts and runs.
In time there are many things which will need doing......however if the bike doesn't run there'll be more important issues.

Have you solved the missing oil problem and got it back into the oil tank?

This is probably the best idea... You can run the starter for 30 seconds for every 2 minutes of rest and it won't give you any problems..

As for the carb, Never seen to many issues with the E. Drop the bowl remove the main and intermediate jet and shoot some carb cleaner in there. Then a little air, not a lot cause you can blow the diaphragm on the accelerator pump when blowing out the Intermediate jet..... Should be good to go..
