As advised, I put enough oil in so I could see some in the tank and turned the engine over with the spark plugs out.
Saw some oil was returning, but the level didn't raise......so maybe it was just short on oil.
Put the air filter on and put some petrol in the tank.........turned the engine over on a newly fitted solonoid starter button (the start switch not functioning at the moment).....and the engine sprung into life!
Only ran it for a couple of minutes at the moment.......but a great sense of achievement

Well I ran the engine for 10 minutes, and I discovered it had wet sumped........the oil level rose to the top of the tank and stopped just before overflowing.

Now apart from this, does anyone know what this is (hopefully I've managed to attach a photograph?)
Under the seat it has a black wire, a purple wire and a brown wire. THere are no markings on it.
The brown wire is attached to two black wires that appear to go to the back of the bike.
The purple wire has pulled out of a connector....again if I guess correctly, also to two black wires.
The black wire looks like an earth?

My guess would be to do with the indicators....but they all work.
