Default Stator woes

This will be my 4th stator going on the Evo with 86K miles.
1st-OEM, died of old age.
2nd-OEM, died of loose stator bolt (my fault)
3rd-non-OEM, died of brittle insulation. See below. Got 16K miles out of it.

I ordered a new stator from Cycle Electric (made in USA). Hopefully, it will last longer.

Wire insulation gone bad. Caused stator to ground to engine.

Changed out my engine crank seal in the fall. Reversed the seal, for those who are wondering and it's working. Again, you can change out stator without having to take off the clutch pack. Less work, because my tranny shaft is not splined.

I have no idea how to resize these images, once uploaded. Does anyone?

ATF if the primary will help with the wire cracking as the oil has agents in it to keep wire insulation healthy - newer transmissions have plenty or wire in the units

I did not know ATF has those properties. Any ATF should work correct?

Type F is what Energy 1 recommends. My 1990 shifts like butter.

Back to the reversed engine oil seal. I believe I have leaking seal. Can you describe which way you installed it? I’ve heard so many instructions on how to install, my head is spinning

Best thing to do is actually measure if you are getting engine oil into your primary for sure. A good time to check out your case insert too. If the seal hasn't been replaced since new, it's probably time, and I do recommend getting a new spacer too. They will develop witness marks, and you don't want to put a new seal on an old spacer. See below for the link I wrote up last summer. If you need better pictures, let me know. My primary is opened up right now. Good luck.

Isn't that the truth.
BTW, my old eyes spot a primary chain adjuster shoe that could be replaced.

Damn it man....you are correct. It's got about 1/8" groove in it. I should order the adjuster block and replace it while it's open.

I don't know about you guys but that after market stater looks burned up to me... How's your regulator? Do you know what the current draw is of your bike when running and everything on?

Cycle Electric is the only choice. I'd do the regulator as well...
