Guys, when I used the word "worth" it was in relation to value and there's more to value than money. It's the pride of building and owning something you don't see every day and that not everybody has. But then, how does that go -" if I have to explain.... I'm serious, go with a Shovel or Pan. You can thank me later. You can't love an evo, it has no soul. I know because I'm currently riding one.

nother opinion

I own a collection of antique machines and the soul is a real thing - its in the mind and body -- me I feel as if I am part of what I am riding

and I own left and right shift and throttle machines - do I need to say you need to pay attention switching machines on the same day

MY newest machines -- I have a 1985 EVO FLHTC and a 1981 FLT - different in many ways yet very much the same - my go to if I want to just blast and come back is the evo - and it has been since I finished restoring it - does it have a soul never thought about it having one - as its purpose is trouble free motion and in the that idea its a great bike to own and will have it till I am gone

I've got more in my bike than it's worth but after owning it for 30 years of riding it's priceless. Good luck with your project.

Might take all winter.
Or maybe more.
But imagine it becoming the vision that you first had?
And imagine how awesome it will be that you got it there will be mre than the money or time you put in it
Most will never know. Only you will be able to appreciate that. The story.
And that! Will always be your own little bit of you only know thing in a world where nothing is private anymore.
So with that said, I hope you succeed!

I'll bet to venture that most of you that value your Evo more than it's "worth" is most likely because it was your first entry in riding an HD.... Which is cool.. sort of like your first car in high school... A love that can never be replaced..
Don't get me wrong, I love my Fatboy but I also have the 77 FXE and I have built the same kind of love for that machine as well... Even though they're different it's still the same love and as John says it's the sole of the bike and the frame of our mind, when passing through time on our journeys we tend to become one with the bike and our surroundings....

I had a 71 electra glide .Super nice bike. Very original. It had a lot of soul. I miss that bike until i start thinking about it's shortcomings
it was pain in the ***...it needed constant attention. It had front and rear drum brakes. It had 4 forward gears. It had a chain. It had inner tubes. It would vibrate your feet off the floor boards any speed above 60 mph. The windshield was useless above 35mph, and there was no way to adjust it so that my head wouldn't shake like dog pooping razor blades.
Ever try to ride 2 up with a buddy seat on a pogo post?
I had a 1990 frxs-sp. Very sterile bike. Almost boring. Sold it.
this evo electra glide I have now...it has soul. It has character. It also easily does 80mpg .It's fairly comfortable. It doesn't have a chain, or a 4 speed tranny, or an engine mounted directly the frame. My gf and I can comtorably, and safely, ride 2 up.
Your project will have plenty of soul, and character...hell, it already does. It will be a fun project, and you will learn a lot, and that knowledge is priceless

That would make a great winter project. Begin taking every nut and bolt apart and you will soon learn to come to love that ol' scooter like none other! And you will have a blast researching what you need to find and wheeling and dealing when you do! Keep us posted with your progress.
