Default Buckhorns On an FL....

A friend of mine was looking for some pull back 4" risers to make his Fatboy more comfortable for his height.. (You could say he's vertically challenged).. Any ways I had a new set that I wasn't using so I gave them to him.. He had a set of Buckhorns also, I once tide an 82 Superglide II with Buckhorns and a narrow front end and loved the way it handled.. Anyways he found me a set for my Fatboy and was wondering what the general consensus is about Buckhorns on an FL front end or should I change to a narrow glide front end... Any pics of either setup would be appreciated.. thanks..

My father's buddy is quite vertically challenged. he bought a Heritage Classic new in 1990, messed with the seat, shocks, etc to get kind of flat footed. Short guy for sure. Then he started messing with the handle bars, coudln't find anything he liked. One afternoon (Johnny Walker involved) they decided to put the stock buckhorns handlebars from our 1991 Sportster on his Heritage. Well he absolutely loved them and they were on his bike for at least 20 years until he sold it to his son. bars may still be on the bike. I thought they looked a little small, but I am not 5'-5" so WTF do I know. He was happy and my father got one more thing out of the basement. That's my story, no pics sorry.

You don't think they're to narrow for an FL front end? And will it affect handling any?

Looks wise it may bother some, far as comfort, fit and handling can't beat that combo on a stripped down wide glide with a narrower tire. God knows we ran enough of them in the day.

I personally do Not have the control I deem necessary for Me... with my hands at the "buckhorn" attitude.. But... if they suit ya... why you wouldn't use them??
I was taught to sit on the bike level...feet on pegs... eyes closed, reach for the bars... an observant friend/partner, will let ya know what bars suit You..

I've got very short arms n put a set of bars very similar to buckhorns on my superglide, do what fit you n don't worry bout others.

Good practice I’d say!
I like bars I can push to lean with... but I’m 6’2”, so reach isn’t much of an issue.

Maybe try some pull back risers, cheap test to see if further back is what you need. I agree with others, wide can be an issue as well stretching you out. it is all about what works for you, looks really are irrelevant, unless you go completely off the reservation then we give you ****!?!?!?

It is funny I have Buckhorns on my 82 Sporty and fell in love with the feel of them when riding.
I have an 06 FLSTC that I have tried to get right in the bar area. The original bars were uncomfortable for me as they hurt after a while and I tried different adjustments. I put a set of Deluxe risers and what look like dyna wide glide bars on the bike. I am always ending up slouched and with back pain on long rides with this set up and Buckhorns might be an idea.

Not a great picture, but that is the set up. The Black and Red bike. The other is my wife's with stock bars and set up.
