Anyone have one long term? I know the Evo's have a great reputation but I have a 97 Heritage Softail. This bike is not one that I could ride up mountains and 85 mph all day long. At least I don't think it is one that will maintain those speeds. I'm good with that so it's mostly a local bike. Now add the weight that the Electra Glide has and it appears to me to not be suitable for anything much more that all day at 55/60 loaded with gear. Am I correct?? It kills me that they didn't come with a gas gauge or Tach. Is what it is. Fill me in, what's the deal?
I had a 94 Evo Softail for 25 years and 223,000 miles until it was wrecked. Only reason it wouldnt do 85 all day long was I couldnt hang onto the handlebars from the vibration.
I have a 96 Springer and an 89 Ultra Classic, plus an 81 Shovel. I'd ride that Springer anywhere any distance. My Springer is smooth, comfy and in great shape. The Ultra is the same. My Shovel is a project that I'm about ready to complete. Should be a good ride as well.
Seeing all the crap going on with these newer bikes, I'll stick with my EVOs. They are simple to work on and parts are readily available. I like older Harley's!

Regarding your concerns....Why not?
Regarding tachometer...do not have one and do not need one.
Regarding gas gauge...use odometer as a gauge and gas every 100-120 miles.
So bring extra gas!! The speed limits here are 85 and the majority are doing 95-100. There are no buildings between the exits and no cell service. Would you, could you, ride a early to mid 90's 5 spd EVO Electra Glide at 85/90 mph for 15 hrs? I'm not talking physically I'm asking about the bike.

Isn't the speed limit in Wyoming 80 mph? I've been through that state a few times and I certainly didn't see the majority of people running 95-100 mph.
Sounds like you were running in one of those cannonball run events.
