I bought this tool thinking it would allow me to remove the pins from the connectors on my '93 Ultra wiring harness.

I guess I was wrong.

Do I need to use this tool in some other way, or throw it out and get a proper too.

I haven't tried it yet but it might work on both pins and sockets.

 

I have the same one Dave bought, and never could figure out how it works.

At about the 45 second mark you see how the tube style works on our evo's. Slip the hollow tube over the pin connector so it compresses the locking tab. Then the pin will pull out of the plastic connector housing.

The only difference with the one in the video is it has a button on the end to push the terminal out of the housing.

The one in the pic above still compresses the locking tab, but does not push it out of the housing. The wire just needs to be gently pulled out of plastic connector housing after pin locking tab is compressed by the tool. You need to find the correct size "hollow tube" so it will compress the locking tab, then pull on wire while tool is still in place.

If the tube is to large it won't compress the tab.

Some guys can locate and compress the locking tab with a pin, a paperclip, etc. I have never been that lucky. YD

 

Which connectors exactly though on your bike, a picture would help?

 

I have used a small jeweller's screw-driver to compress the clip YD points to with some success - although it is a darned fiddle!

 

With either of these two cheapo tools, I could remove any I've come across so far. Search Google or YouTube for the type of connector to learn how to release the lock tab, connector types used are Molex, Amp and Deutsch

 

I had pretty good luck using the tool that the OP is asking about, takes a little fiddling (they all do), but I have also had luck using a straightened out paper clip, just get inside and push the tab against the terminal and pull the wire out.

My `89 Softail has the connectors that were used through `95 (AMP Mate-n-Loc).

If you see one of these online, don`t waste your money :

 

I used one of those for years and it worked great.
You just have to remember it's plastic and not overstress it.

That said I found in my manual a phone number and a part number for a metal one that I haven't broken yet.

 

The first time I tried to use this tool the tip broke off, it is a POS, got it on line for about 15 bucks, but the vendor refunded my money.

These things are on the Namz website for 59 dollars......maybe they are not the same, but I`m not going to find out.
