Everyone owns, or dreams of owning a "special" Harley...especially an FXR... Unfortunately... there really is None...
The VIN cannot lie... and... the op's bike is Certainly Not at all Original.. Insurance companies do Not cover Pipe dreams nor Aftermarket "stuff".
I no longer seek "inexpensive" for Insurance... I seek.."reputation"..
Edit; By Now, everyone here Knows that I do Have a 1983 FXR... with an Evo Engine.... a 1993 engine in fact... I kinda like it!!!

I have a late 83, Evo motor, with a 5 speed. numbers match. but what is interesting, is the guy i bought it from has a registration that says 83, but when we transfered the title it was list as an 84.
either way it get with it when throttle therapy is needed. Even with 67K miles on it. and it going to work just fine for my Granddaughters first Harley.

And... What Numbers are on this 1983 E-Motor...Please...
AFAIK, all Evo's came with an MSO showing a 1984 or later model year, even though the earliest ones were sold during 1983.
The discrepancy with the registration showing 1983 could be from a number of things, most likely (I'd guess, anyway) is some clerk at the DMV just miss typed it into the system.
Either way, a 1984 FXR is a cool bike to have, and your granddaughter is a lucky girl!!
Things we ponder, i still wonder why it was in his name as a 83, then when we transfered the title it came as a 84.....
not that i give a hoot, and it still fits in garage with the other. tires where over 10 years old so going to change them this weekend ..I Hope.
have a good weekend
thanks for the info.
it was the registration,
what i was really surprised about, was it having a dry clutch.
it was quite grabby in traffic, took it apart cleaned it and put it back together and away we went working just fine.

Registration, even title, simply show the Ignorance of some Govt Employees..
I, for one, prefer the Older "Shovelhead style" clutch.. which... denotes "early" vs "late" 1984 Models...
The Stock 1983 FXR clutch is doing rather well behind a 1993 Slightly breathed on, Evo Mill..
Yes... if the Shovel clutch gets oil contaminated... it is Grabby, and unruly... a simple clean, degrease, scuff a bit... Perfect!!!
