Default 1999 Harley Davidson Fatboy

Hi this post is in regards to the tail light base plate.. on 99 Fatboy.. I purchased a laydown led from j and p but it doesn't fit the base I have.. im the second owner so im not sure if the previous owner changed it or what .. it has 2 bolts attached that go into the fender.. and no harness .. it's straight wire right into the bulb. I was wondering if this is the right plate or was it changed ?

The glass of the bulb has plainly broken off, so it would help to use a pair of pliers to gently twist it out of the socket. That bulb should be a twin filament one, for tail-light plus brake light, so as a minimum there should be two wires, one per filament. Harleys routinely grounded things like the lights through the mountings, but I believe at some time they added a proper ground wire as ell. Not sure if that includes your bike. It does look a bit plain, so I suspect it may be aftermarket - is there an H-D logo on it anywhere?

No there is no hd logo on it anywhere.. but I looked up the number on the plate and some did come up used on ebay that's the same thing . People are saying it is hd part. But ya I took the bulb out. I just don't know why the holes do not line up. If it's a hd part. It says it fits my bike but clearly don't. Maybe on some models they used that style bad plate ?, I don't know .. but I don't think that im im go to be able to use that light I bought unless I modified the rear fender and that's not an option because there in the process of being painted ..
