Default Dumb Question

Here goes.....does it matter if I just start her up vs "priming" the oil system first?

The way I understand the oil system is that the engine gets oil first. Once the engine is "done" with it, the scavenge pump then pushes it through the oil cooler and the filter, then returns to the tank. So as long as there is oil in the tank there isn't any need to prime anything.....right?

What I have done is remove the cover over the check ball on the oil pump, remove the spring and ball and the oil should run into the pump, when it starts to come out of the opening replace the ball, spring and cover.

Some guys squirt oil in there but I never needed to.

I never drained the pump or engine during this whole thing.

When I got mine back together after an engine rebuild including a new oil pump, I had to pour some oil down into the oil pump to get it flowing.

Pull the plugs and crank engine till oil light goes out.
Install plugs and start
