You are correct...that is a mustang seat for a 97 and up touring..It came with the bike...I am thinking of going to a solo seat since...
I was sure it was, but didn't realize it was for post '96, though the nose did look a bit short. How did you attach it at the front?
All the "affordable" seats I find are for FLH that has the bolt tab for rear fender attachment and a tab on the nose that attaches "somewhere" I can't figure out without something to look at. I can easily adapt the rear to the handrail but the front has me bluffed since the post '88 seats all have a similar tab front mount on the bottom plate instead of the cross bar. I have seen some, that the cross bar could mount on, others for later models aren't shaped in a way that would allow that. And, I have an oil tank rather than a "pan" so post '92 seats - I wonder if they would interfere with the oil fill.
I've not been to a rally since '92, but I'm starting to miss the big swap meets...
here's the stock original seat from my 85. it was redone in leather. the stitching on the seat is an exact replica of the pattern that was on the vinyl. it bolts to the sides of the passenger handrail bracket, the bolts are 5/16 fine thread.
Looks like same bottom plate as my '87 except my rear bolts are 1/4-20. I may get one of 2 seats re-done instead of looking for another, assuming I can find someone to do nearly as nice work as you did.
I took the original seat to A-1 upholstery here to have some new foam put in because it didn't have any cushion left in it and it was awful to ride on. when I picked it up I noticed several other motorcycle seats there waiting to get picked up. they must do lots of them. A-1 is primarily an auto upholstery shop, stock repairs and some custom stuff too. I'm sure there would be something like that in your area too.I rode it with the new foam for a year or so when I found the mustang seat on craigslist. the mustang has less of a dip in it and it's a flatter seat but it has way more cushion.
