But you need to carefully read the install / wiring instructions that came with the ignition. The FSM won't help you at all with that ignition, other than show you the TDC and 35BTC marks on the flywheel.

Dynatek makes several versions of ignition for that bike. Without knowing exactly which ignition you are trying to use, none of us can offer the correct information.
Dynatek S (DS6-1 is the part #)

Here's a link to the instruction pages. Pages 1 thru 3 should get you going. They are very straight forward....

If you're using an inductive timing light it can be a pain in the *** and messy.. I also think you should get the Factory Service Manual (FSM) for your bike...
Ok so tried all this and couldn't get it to do anything but crank. So went back to the points setup, I know, its dumb, but ive been messing with them for 3 years now so figured I might be able to make some progress on getting it to fire. So put new points, condenser, coil back in. Turn key on, (has power and everything seems normal) but wont turn over or anything. Has a clicking sound coming from side panel where circuit breakers and 5 prong relay are. Could one of these been the problem the whole time? The day it broke down we rode about 50 miles in 100 degree weather,(wide open) til it stopped. I love this old fxrs, but damn its got me stumped this time

Sounds like you have a short, is the clicking coming from a circuit breaker or relay?

You took out the advance weights/mechanism when you switched it to the electronic version, right? Just checking.

Charge your battery.

Oh. I always thought going to an electronic ignition would be best because you can dump those flyweights, which from what I understand are getting hard to find in a good quality, and a known failure point.
