I've heard guys using the fiberglass mat from auto body fiberglass repair kits... You roll it nicely onto your baffle and just stick it right in...
Only have packed with fiberglass mating, sells on Ebay as a kit but used the fiberglass drywall tape(stranded)this last time instead of stainless wire keeping the mat in spot, holding up longer. This is on a Drago's exhaust and it eats packing, Frank Drago's posted using header wrap the baffle for more of a permanent repair, I'll most likely use it next time, only info I've heard or seen is 2 layers of wrap, it might be trial and error.
Depends on how much and which end you're packing, plus whether you have a diffuse plate. So, if you're doing a straight thru perforated tube, fiberglass is fine. Ceramic does hold up to higher heat for longer if you're doing a muffler that has an expansion bulb in the baffle tube. Only downside is ceramic costs more but it will outlast fiberglass many times over.
Here's a photo of a brand new (old style) Screamin Eagle (Kerker) touring baffle. The fiberglass on the inlet won't be there for long, at all.
On mine, I used ceramic on the inlet end to the "bulb" and left the rear section bare. My mileage went up nearly 7 mpg with no other changes. I pulled the baffles out after about 6k miles and the ceramic packing hadn't degraded at all.
