Default Altitude

So I know our constant velocity carbs handle elevation change, but how high up can I go? I'm looking at trail ridge in Rocky mountain national Park, which peaks at over 11,000 feet.

You'll be fine. The CV carb compensates for air density by just opening less for each intake stroke.

Your idle will drop tho, and you'll be down on power.

Great, thanks. The previous owner put a thunderslide kit on. Would that affect the ability to compensate?

Mine was tuned for 1000' above sea level and I went up Pikes Peak without a change. It wasn't running it's best but was adequate for that trip. It runs well here @ 5000' without a retune. You'll be fine.

Thanks both for advice. Going there right after 4th of July to spread my sister's ashes and didn't want to run into difficulty. Appreciate it.

Yup,I've done that road with a carbed bike a few times and with different carbs.
The CV did fine,Mikuni 42 I had ran okay but dripped gas out the breather.
Both times bike was tuned at just 300 ft in Portland,Oregon.

It'll get you there and back but don't expect to running any races doing it. Over 6000' every starts to drop in performance, had the shovel on several roads in Co. at 12'000 + with an S&S on it, you'll do fine
