Default Fork Sliders Inspiration

Hi everyone, I'm in the process of doing up an old 84 FXR and i've come to the point where i want to improve the look of the fork sliders.

They're aesthetically f**ked, the chrome is totally shot, and looks like it's been part sanded away (photos below), but functionally perfectly fine.

I'd really like to recover them, and do something with them rather than replace, and I'm after a bit of inspiration!

Any ideas of what i could do to bring them up to scratch and make them look a bit unique and cool?

As long as you don't mind deviation from stock, if you have access to a lathe you could always turn them down and polish them out. A lot of work but inexpensive

Pull the lowers and have the old chrome electronically removed, and re-chrome plated.

Or since the lower bodies are aluminum, you and just sand and polish the lowers isntead (easy to do if you have a big enough lathe, but can still be done by hand)..
Once polished, make sure to seal the polish surfaced with a clear sealer, or have them clear anodized.

Take them off, strip them out and take them to a powder coater... They will sand blast them then powder coat them.. It's not as expensive as you would think... You should at least look into it.. get prices...

Take them off the bike and have the chrome stripped off. Then either powdercoat them in black, or polish and leave natural finish. You could also add fork gators to cover the top of the tubes.

In my area, it is cheaper to buy chrome or powder coated legs, than to have yours done.
If you don't want to spend money, or take them apart, you can sand and polish them while they are on the bike, or paint them, or vinyl wrap them. I think there are even covers available.
Anything would look better than what you have!

Douglas Metal Finishing and Premier Plating Works are relatively close to you in the London area. Check on having them re-chromed.
