I'm no betting man but if I was....I would guess this was the initial problem. This is the fourth one of these I have been through.

Chinese. When I built the bike I couldn't find an oem dash or switch. All of the lights in my dash have come out from being pressed in and ceased functioning. In about two weeks I am ditching the whole dash, mechanical speedo, speedo drive, and idiot lights. I am going to do something like this....

My six speed is a newer style trans case. I am going to use a pickup sensor and a tiny electronic speedo mounted to my handlebar risers. That way I am not concerned with the speedo drive for wheels and can put a 10 spike 19 inch on the front. I may even build a narrowglide for it. Nobody puts those on a Softail.

What ever floats your boat... But I think you should get a dash like the later model Evo's with a newer ignition switch... But then again you always have a ummm glove box... LOL......

The old mechanical switches are still available from the dealer, about 75 bucks. The original on my `89 FLSTC lasted 31 years...

Aftermarket switches are junk.

I looked them up last night, just out of curiosity, and they are now listed as no longer available.

PN: 71501-73A is the old mechanical type switch that was used through the `93 model year Softails, they are still available.

I don't see any difference between the one on your model and the 95 I have yet they have different part numbers.
Do you have any idea what they changed between our mechanical switches?
My switch was only used '94 and '95 then in '96 HD went to the new electric switch.
