I posted this in the Touring section, It was suggested to me to post over here too....
Hello All. I am looking at a 1991 FLHTCU with 65K miles. I'm unsure of it's history- no surprise, it's 30 years old. I can't say it's been overly babied but maybe.... Not really banged up. The owner is an old guy and I'm not sure if he's BSing me or is just "Getting on". Some answers are blatantly wrong [new front tire-not]. Says he's had it for 6 years, his mechanic, who he gave me his phone#, for says 1 year. Pointed out the engine oil cooler-rectifier/reg. So I'm on my own here. Looking for a really stock equipped unit and this one is. Wanted one with lower mileage - an Evo/Carbureted/Ultra. They are out there and am willing to pay for one, just missed one with 21k miles, probably won't run across one that low too soon again. If I can get a decent higher mileage one for the right price will leave room to repair without getting in too deep. Any suggestions what I should look for? Seems to run fine. Has new belt. Possible base gasket leak. What's it going to need soon? Any thoughts? Thanks, Frank
91 and up has the splined shaft on the clutch so that’s a plus. With that mileage probably gonna need new pulleys, tires and grease the wheel bearings. I would also replace the lifters too.If it’s well taken care of, they’ll run a long time. I think the price should be around 4k
86, Thanks for the input. Rear pulley looked very good. I service wheel bearings at every tire change and will be very quick to look at these - knowing how many are so enthusiastic about power washing that nasty grease from around wheel bearings.
Lifters? Do they fail before other things?
Izzo, I see that you deleted my other post. Thanks.
