Default Clutch question...

I've stroked the motor on my 85 FXRS to 96" with S&S internals and a Baker 5 speed. My question is, will the stock clutch basket be strong enough to take the power that's gonna be thrown at it??? There will be a Barnett Scorpion clutch residing in it.

If your baker 5 speed has a splined input shaft then your basket was also upgraded to at least a 91 and possibly a 98 basket.. With the right clutch setup it should not be an issue.. A pic of your current clutch basket would confirm..

The 1991-1993 clutch primaries are definitely not as strong as the later ones, the issue is after 93 the starter ring size increased therefore needing the correct inner and outer primary covers

The problem with the 91-93 clutch primaries is the fingers that hold the snap ring on the spring plate are prone to breaking, there is no worse feeling than pulling in your clutch handle and all of a sudden you loose tension and the clutch handle is flopping around in your hand, pull the derby cover off on the side of the road to find the snap ring and spring plate laying in the primary your not going anywhere! Don't ask me how I know! LOL, but there are aftermarket clutch hubs for them that are a better set up like the Barnett Scorpion your using

You'll love the Scorpion clutch and mixing/matching the springs can get you all kinds of different pressure for the plate.
Currently run one in my Ultra with a 96" motor in it and before it was behind the 113" I had in it.

Thanks for the reply to my question. The shift is tapered with a keyway. From what it sounds this set up should work and be fun as hell!!!
