Default Evo stage 1

Sorry for some duplication to an earlier post of mine, but in this post I'll add a lot of additional information.

I just picked up a 1995 FLSTN with a bit over 11,000 miles on it. It feels like a LOT less torque than my M* and I am wondering how the following modification will affect the performance from stock.

I think this is basically a stage 1:

- K&N air filter and crankcase breather
- Screaming Eagle ignition module and coil
- Kuryakyn Jet kit (same thing as a Dyno- Jet kit).
- Baffles removed from stock mufflers (the guy used a hole saw on the end and drilled the baffles loose and removed them)

My question is, what does this do as far as torque and horsepower? I am better off putting baffled mufflers back on? If I do, what do I need to do with the jet kit, install a smaller main? How about the ignition and air cleaner, anything?

Thank you in advance for your input!

Baffled is better, and just so you're aware...the SE ignition module has NO rev limiter (not always a good thing).
The rest looks fine.

Yes put baffles back in if you want midrange power, I do not like K&N air filters, do not filter well, but thats just me, and I do not like Kuryakyn Jet kit or Dyno- Jet kits, different jet numbers and emulsion tube just confuses things, is it a CV carb?, If so me myself Id replace all that Kuryakyn Jet kit stuff with stock CV parts from CV performance

And lastly read your spark plugs, they will tell you alot, fuel air mixture, timing ect, and yes you still can read plugs even with the gas today and all the additives and cleaners, yes it makes it more difficult

K&N air filter and vent tube to the ground
Dynatek programmable ignition module and keep the stock coil for now
Rejet stock CV carb using keihin jets .
Leave stock mufflers for now and start saving up for at least after market mufflers. You already have a head start because you saved a little bu not having to buy a crankcase breather, coil or the Kuryakyn Jet kit.

EDIT: I thought you were planning TO DO the mods you described. Sorry did not realize the mods have already been done. Get new mufflers, rejet carb using stock keihin jets. Be careful with the rpm's

OP, are you trying to compare apples to oranges ? The Evo torque is in the mid 70's and depending which M8 you have your TQ is well over 100. That's almost 50% more than the Evo, yes it's going to feel like a slug when compared to your new bike. You can make updates to wake it up but it will always be less than your large displacement engine.

This is how the bike is currently set up:

- K&N air filter and crankcase breather
- Screaming Eagle ignition module and coil
- Kuryakyn Jet kit (same thing as a Dyno- Jet kit).
- Baffles removed from stock mufflers (the guy used a hole saw on the end and drilled the baffles loose and removed them)

I am trying to figure out if this adds or gains performance, torque, horsepower...

I realize the Evo doesn't compare to the M8, but I'm wondering if the setup above is making the bike lose torque and HP or if it is moving it up the RPM range?

Can only reply to baffles question, use hooker pipes, DIY baffles cause wifey didn't like the sound. Noticed more torque with baffles but think I loose some with wot operations.
1990 FXRS-SP

When I was looking at the bike he had at least a dozen mods listed he had done to it, but when I bought it he claimed he knew nothing, so I really don't know for sure what I have. It does pull strong and hard, find myself trying to grab another gear when in 5th.
