Default Which derby cover gasket

Which derby cover gasket do you prefer, I had my bike on the kickstand and I saw a drip out the bottom, removed cover and it has the flat gasket but the red silicone part looked poorly done. I’m seeing there’s an oring which I think was the old style. Which do y’all prefer? I’ve read the oring last forever.

O-ring on my 98. No leak ever.

I prefer the o-ring version. I’ve found the flat gasket to leak if the cover has the slightest warp.

I think the o ring on my `89 Softail is the original.

I switched to the flat gasket and never had an issue. O ring needs to be replaced every time you open the derby cover, flat gasket can be re-used several times. O ring also used to be a little bit of a PITA, flat gasket less fussy.

That said, either in good working order will stop a leak. If yours is leaking, replace the gasket, dealer's choice as to which one. Good luck.

Ima call the dealer today, I think the flat gasket is readily available.

The one I took off that’s leaking, looks like it may have been over tightened at one point because the silicone looks spotty and very flat.

I've always used the flat gasket and no problems. I like that it's reusable!

Check to ensure your derby cover is not warped. The Evo 3-hole cover will warp if not installed properly and do not over torque.
