Replace all your circuit breakers. Over a period of time circuit breakers will weaken thermally and may not be able to carry the designed load.
I've had a similar issue in the past.

I had this issue with my 97 Ultra, the carb bowl was not storing enough fuel. Check your float.

Thank you. New carb but didn't check float levels. A note. I drove this bike for a month off and on and have put a hundred miles on it one time since I got it. Very strong running and no issues. This issue has suddenly appeared. The gas tank was rusted when I got it but really cleaned it out good and coated with cream junk. Fuel filter in line. I checked this morning and no dirt whatsoever came out into a drinking glass. I appreciate this reply. Thank you sir.

I did order the ignition module, coil and ignition relay. I didn't order the darned pickup. New to Harlys. Guess I could order overnight. But, maybe the coils will do it. They are the original. I know the history on this bike. One owner and not driven in years. Maybe not for 17 years. My friend is 89 years old and hasn't ridden this bike in years.

Default 87 flhc update

The issue is that the bike will run along for maybe 5 miles and will suddenly miss until it shuts down. I coast to the side of the road. I hit the starter and it comes alive and off I go for 40 miles and home. The frequency of occurrence is increasing. Today I took off and in 5 miles this scenario was repeated. During the process of shutting down, I switched the ignition off and back on and hit the starter. Nothing. Bike is in 5th gear and decelerating I twisted the grip three times and hit start. It tried to start and sputtered and died. I stopped. Tried to start and it attempted to but would not. I changed spark plugs (rear one was sooty and front one light brown) and it started and off I went home. Almost didn't make it as the process of stalling started again. It feels like its not getting gas but it has a new CV carb. that is brand new only two weeks ago and it is jetted properly. The following is what was done to the bike when I got it: New CV carb, fuel filter in line, new fuel line, gas tank was removed, cleaned, sealed with Ceem and a new pet **** installed. Battery is new. Terminals are tight. I do use premium gas. New plug wires. I am suspecting the coil pack because I have run this bike 60 miles already and no occurrence then, last week ran 6 miles and it did it on way back. Today same. Getting harder to start each occurrence. Sorry this is so long. Thats the story. But when I blip the throttle during shut down, it tries to fire up. That's messin with my head.

The following parts will be installed on this Thursday: New coil pack and new ignition module. Appreciate any ideas. I'm not good on Harleys but love this bike. Had lots of air head BMW's thought. This Harley is wonderful when she's runnin well.

As a result of all the ideas concerning my 87 FLHC shutting off at speed; the following will be addressed starting tomorrow at the shop of a private technician.

We ordered and received a ignition module and "pick up", new coil pack which will be installed

Also the carb will be dissembled and re cleaned . Float level will be verified or set to spec. Carb is a new CV carb but may have had some dirt before the fuel filter install

New coil wires and plugs

Fuel line is brand new. Petcock will be removed and screen checked even though excellent flow was seen by me into a clear drinking glass. (just to be certain) Tank was cleaned and sealed with Cream 30 days ago. The jets and needle circuit is is good. Bike runs perfect, no back fire, wheezing, idle is consistent and plug check is brown. No bucking, pulls hard and levels out smoothly and cruises smooth with no jerking or hesitations. (when it runs)

Only thing didn't order is the ignition relay that someone mentioned that is in the head light. After all this if it don't run right, I got no idea. Thank all you guys for your suggestions. I'm tryin to do em all. This bike is flawless as far as factory paint. A shame it sat so long (17 years but, I'm gonna replace everything I have to to make it right.

Compression was checked also and base and head gaskets were replaced too. Thanks again and I'll let ya all know how this ends up.

Quick question. New OEM CV carb or Chinese CV carb from eBay?

When you have installed all your new ignition system parts, there's only fuel delivery issue left.

Aloha,
and could it be possible with the tank sealer to close the hole for the gas tank air venting neer the filler cap?
Open the cap and try to go.
If it runs over the 5 mls you have the solution.
