Default 1985 FLHT upgrades

I have a 1985 HD FLHT, and I'm looking to make some upgrades as this is my bar hopping ride. I'm looking to change to an open primary with a 6 speed. I already had the engine completely rebuilt with 327 pistons and stroked. My problem is I'm having a hard time finding the complete primary kit, and transmission for the EVO for that year. I'm also having a hard time finding information about doing a build like this. Does anyone have any knowledge about doing a project like this

You're going to have a tough time finding parts, even the aftermarket is moving away from supporting bikes of your vintage, especially specialty parts. The larger, common consumable items are still around.

I can't speak for your year bike, but I installed the Ultima 2" open primary on my 1997 Wide Glide about 8 years ago, zero issues and it does everything I want it to do. I bought it thru Jireh, give them a call and see if they have a version for your bike. Good luck.

I also have a 1985 FLHT, and can say as mentioned parts for this year bike are very rare and difficult to find. I don't know about the inner primary, but the outer is unique and limited to a few years. Extremely difficult to find, if this translates to the inner then good luck finding what you need for your open. Seats pretty much need be custom, and I think your plan to move to a different transmission is a good idea.

Yeah I had a hard time finding a seat. I actually had to take the seat apart, and cut it to fit me. Thank God my mother is a great seamstress
