Default FXR Ticking Noise

Went for around a 300 mile ride two weeks ago (helmet on) and everything was fine.
Last weekend rode to a restaurant (without my helmet) and noticed a faint "ticking" noise that was RPM sensitive.
My first thought is it can either be exhaust gasket, primary chain or hopefully not a tappet.
I'm going to start simple but would like to post and see if you guys had any suggestions.

ALSO when I came back to the house I noticed after it was sitting a small puddle of oil is under my bike. Go figure.
I'm somewhat positive the noise increases as it warms up so I think the viscosity of oil effects it so that worries me.
I've been busy working 12's at work and haven't had the time to pull the derby cover off yet but I'll try to after I get off of work. I will also take some pics of what I find.

Here's a picture of the oil of what I've found.. Looks like primary but I'm not sure if the leak is related or not.
Any and all help is much appreciated.

Bike has 46k miles but probably not relevant.

It's an '88 with a S&S 111" that has about 5k miles on it.

Updated to '92 era: (Not shovelhead style)
Delkron trans case, Baker gears, Scorpion clutch, Comp eliminator sprocket and new inner/outer primary cases. All with around 1500 miles

Engine oil is Schaeffer's
Primary is Schaeffer's
Trans is Redline

Oil on the ground doesn't look pink so I'd think it's either engine or primary. I'm leaning hard towards primary, it still looks a little "green tinted" like when it looked new.

I don't think that would be it. The leak is more towards the front to let me believe that's the culprit.

I pulled the outer primary off today after work and found a few things. The plug had a good amount of metal on it as did the oil that drained out, the chain is at 3/4" ish, close enough to call it 3/4", chain has hit the top of the inner primary as well as the shift shaft sleeve. Other than that I can't see anything that really jumps out to me.

As promised I took pictures as I was pulling it off.
Any and all help is appreciated.

The top of the inner primary with the grind mark on it from the chain below.

Cut in the shift shaft below.

Oil under my bike looking like it coming from the primary side.

Under the case.

Under the case primary side.

that spot is where just about any oil leak will show. I've had a leak from a pushrod tube or lifter block run to the low side of the engine on the stand and drip off the primary right by the drain plug.

I'd tighten the primary chain a hair.

Maybe that stator plug but I really don't think so the rubber part of the plug looks to clean or the inner primary cover engine o ring

Thanks for your input. I just ordered the Hayden auto tensioner even though I see mixed reviews about it. If anybody has any real results or reason why I shouldn't run it please let me know.

I don't think its the plug or I would assume a lot more oil would be in that area.

I'd like to say though that I'm not using the O ring to mate the inner primary to the engine. I'm using a metal style reusable gasket that has worked great before (bought a new one every time) but I'll find out this weekend if its leaking from there when I pull the inner primary off.
Today I have a new HD gasket for the outer primary, HD blue O ring for the inner, Hayden M6 primary chain tensioner and new exhaust gaskets.
I have V&H pipes and use the cone pain in the *** gaskets, I've heard that could be the the ticking noise with the V&H exhaust but also that's what I've been using for years with those pipes.

ticking from the upper end or lower end? EVO ticking in the upper end is pretty common, the rocker shafts tick against the bolts
