Looking at a 1999 Fat Boy....originally thought it was a TC 88 but pictures confirm it is an Evo. Considering it is pretty much near the end of the evo run, my guess is that it should be pretty solid. Anything I should be aware of? I currently have TC 88 and TC 103 bikes.
You did not mention how many miles are on the bike? Assuming that the milage is low, the one issue that I know of on the latter model Evo's is the Ina cam bearing. The Ina bearing that Harley used from the Factory was $#!?. I'd replace it ASAP with a Torrington style bearing. While your in there, and assuming that you are going to leave the motor otherwise stock, I'd probably change the cam to a Andrew's EV 13, the factory cam was pretty wimpy. Hopefully some of the other guys will chime in on any other advice.
i doubt highly the bike is factory, its possible but with a 20 something yr old bike i doubt it ..
i got lucky with mine bought it from the original owner ( daughters god fathers uncle )
it wasnt original but he had paper work for stuff he did , and he did a good bit , head work, bore kit, ev27 cam, bearing upgrade, s&s carb
even tire and battery changes ...
it has 53k miles with the motor work getting done at 24k and i got it for 3800
he missed some stuff, which i replaced or fixed, then of course i started throwing money at it to make it mine ...
just make sure you do your research on it . on what the person did and has papers on doing it, all helps in the long run
Thanks....still shopping as I did not hear back from the seller. Meanwhile, found another evo Fat Boy. My search criteria are less than 10K miles. I am looking to add to my collection and anticipate not putting more than 1K miles per year on it since I have a garage full of bikes. I want something as close to stock as possible.
So how difficult is it to replace the oil tank in these evo softails? (cosmetic reasons only)
I dropped the 99 Fat boy. Owner was unrealistic and would not budge from $10K. I found a perfect condition '12 Fat Boy (with new tires and complete service) with just over 3K miles for a little over $12K. Too good to pass up so I went with the TC103 again. All stock so it is a blank canvas for me
