So yeah, my 1992 Fat Boy with a stock Evo just stopped on me. It's like it just ran out of fuel. It stopped, I switched to reserve and nothing happened. About ten minutes later it started like nothing ever happened. Its not the only time this has happened. My son and I rebuilt the bike last winter and we took the tanks and fenders off to be painted but I have ridden it many times with no problem. It does seem to be getting bad mileage. I get the feeling I might be ****ing something up but I'm not sure. Other than this the bike runs great.
I had something like that happen too me once on my FXR. The bike was low on fuel, sputterd and died. I switch to reserve and nothing happened (wouldn't restart) so my ex and I starting pushing it towards the off ramp to get gas and that's when I heard fuel sloshing around in the tank.
I said to my ex "there's still gas in this thing" so I fired it up and rode to the gas station.
First check battery connections, cables and grounds, do you have a vacuum petcock? if so check they go bad often, check the petcock screen inside tank, does the bike have the original ignition module, if so check ignition module pick up in nose cone for brown goo and melting, also make sure gas tank is venting, you can check this you loosing the gas cap
