Default 1996 electro glide code 14

Had my 96 start showing code 14 so I replaced the temp sensor and it didn't solve the problem. Engine light came on before a 1000 mile ride home made it 500 when I pulled off an exit and the idle was 3500 reps. Shut it off for an hour and idle went back to normal
rode another 50 miHoteldid it again. Hotel and rode the next 500 but idle went to 3500 each exit but 5 to 30 minutes its normal again. Cleaned connections and filter. Oil. Filter. Anyone know what I can do?

Unhook battery for a day to clear codes.

I have near zero f/i experience but one thing I notice when reading about problems, practically no one ever mentions the possibility of an intake leak. I know the symptoms on a carburetor bike and on an injected engine they would be similar, except there's a computer trying to compensate.

Obviously too much trouble on a road trip but since you made it home, but first thing I'd do is replace the intake o-rings at the heads and eliminate the possibility of a lean/run hot condition from a mechanical issue. Even a carbed bike that old and especially if they've never been changed, has a high probability of leaking there.

I found a Crack in the exost pipe,, I'm guessing there's a intake leak and also valves may need work after that long ride with the problem

Difficult to road test this time of year where you are, but I'd address the possibilities in the same order you listed - exhaust leak, intake leak and see what happens. Factory exhaust valves are very thick compared to others and are rather forgiving, comparatively. Best of luck and hope the "easy" things take care of it. Thanks for the update.
