2001 fuel injection system
Its a Magnetti & Marelli injection system (Harley went to he Delphi injection system in 2002), so what is the question?
in the tank side, you have pump, the fuel filter, check valve on the supply side at the bung fitting, that goes to the manifold port, return line back out of the manifold, then check valve at the other bung fitting and back into the tank.
Between the in and out in the manifold, you have a fuel pressure regulator on the bottom of the manifold, which is held in by the top bolt that is between the in ejectors and ports (torque head bolt).
As for injector timing, it done off the crank sensor on the left hand side front of the car, and besides the sensor being old, someone cracking the sensor wire by doing oil filter changes, and just before the ECM, there is a twist lock connector for the sensor to ecm connector that loves to rotate if not zipped tied to hold it in place, to cause the connectors to come unplugged from themselves. From there, you have the throttle position sensor (that can be pulled apart and be cleaned), the air intake temp sensor, and the motor temp sensor.
So if you tell us what the bike is doing wrong, do a quick check of the sensors to make sure they are still connected, should be quick work on solving any problems with the system.
Also, have you cycled the key the needed three times (4 second on, turn off, then 4 second on, turn off, then turn on again) to check for any codes that the ECM is showing via the oil pressure light? If the crank position sensor is unplugged, should be getting the 41 code from the start.

As for MM parts, plenty of after market parts for the system, so short of the ECM being bad, it's only like $300 to replace all the sensors, as well as the fuel pump, filter, and regulator if needed.
Here is a good write up on pulling the codes, but keep in in mind that a failing engine temp senor may not pull up the codes, you will know if it has problem when you go to start the bike dead cold itself.Hence should high idle for about a min, then start dropping its idle down to normal after that .

Also make sure that owner does not start up the bike until you get there (feel the exhaust system to make sure it still cold at the heads and check to see if it it has any codes), have him start the bike to see if it will high idle during start up, then start to drop down in about a min to normal rpms. Turn off the bike, then recheck it for codes. After you have given the bike a one over and taking it for a test drive, park is where you can give it a once over for leaks. As for twin cam, the cam chain tenisioner are spring loaded stock (pre 2006), so if bike has 30K off miles on it, what to see some document for plastic tensioner shoes being replaced at that point, or tensioner system replace to hydro units, which will have the tensioner shoes lasting up to 60K instead.
Hence a lot of bike will polish up nice on the outside, but can be a train wrench inside isntead. Know this up front, and if someone is telling you that the bike is perfect, then look at the repair and service records to prove it, or receipts of parts if the owner was wrenching on the bike themselves.
If you don't know how to wrench on a Twin cam, then take someone one with you to ask the question if the seller is telling you that they wrenched on the bike themselves and is in perfect condition, or just trying to snow ball you with with a bike that has sat for decades, and just given a good wash before you can over.
