Default 1995 ultra classic compatibility

hello everyone thanks for checking out my thread. I am new to the whole Harley scene. but I have been riding since the age of 16. I turned 50 this year and I decided it was time to break down and buy a Harley. yes I could have bought a sportster, but being 6'5" and 400 lbs. doesn't help matter!! so I looked around at the Harley dealerships and I found a 1995 ultra classic with 40k on the clock. Pretty much stock besides for the Vance and Hines exhaust . I am wanting to know what years are exactly compatibility with the 95? I would like to change the radio replace the stock suspension . things like that. ANY HELP WOULD GREATLY BE APPERCAITED THANKS IN ADVANCE...

I have a '94 and it's nearly identical to the '95. I'm not much help with the suspension because mines been lowered. As far as the radio, I wouldn't spend money on a stock replacement. There are a number of manufacturers that make a replacement kit to use a single DIN car type head unit in the '95 dash. The kit I used was made by Biketronics originally installed with a Sony marine grade unit and it preserved the use of the hand controls. The bike got caught in a downpour and the head unit and module were soaked and failed. Biketronic stood behind their lifetime warranty and replaced their product. I wouldn't hesitate to use them again.

As far as parts compatability - the parts from other years can fit even though the HD part numbers don't cross reference in the HD parts catalog. You may find the HD part number can be different based on the model or year but the part will still fit. I've found that if I look at JP cycles or Dennis Kirk for parts a wide variety of parts are interchangeable and identified by using their fitment guides that will show the compatible years and models.

There are good threads in this forum covering almost every topic for the bikes using the search option. You may need to use multiple searches using different but similar words to find what you are looking for in the threads.

I could type some thoughts but Rizzo covered it pretty well.
With enough searching and asking here you can get a lot of info on parts swapping.

Here's a link for HD official lookup stuff

and here's a link for on-line parts fiches

Ronnie's is pretty good about having things in stock and shipping.
Pretty much any engine, primary, and transmission parts exchange among evos, but there are some differences to watch for. Same with touring frames and suspensions, there's broad interchangeability, but some year-to-year difference do pop up. For instance, up through, I think, somewhere around 94 or 95 the forks had air assist (you'll know by the fitting in the end of the handlebar). Pretty much all touring seats swap. 92-93 was the change from case breathing to head breathing, as I recall, so that affects top end components, air cleaners, etc but it's not insurmountable. In fact, that can probably be said about all evo touring parts changes; not insurmountable.
Enjoy

Damn son. You and I are close on the size numbers, so you might want to invest in a little more power from the mill eventually. Great little indie shop over in California, KY who does evo work along with upgrade work.
I have a couple or touring evo bikes and love 'em.
