Starting Issue - 97 WG
Happy New Year!
Tried starting my bike and it won't turn over. Replaced a battery that died - approximately 10 month old Deka. Replaced with new battery and charged up for two days and can't get bike to turn over.
Attached are some pictures of the brown goop by the ignition area - I recall multiple threads mentioning this could potentially be the culprit.
Am just starting to look into this and would like some advice.

The engine isn't turning over or the engine is turning but it isn't starting?
Your pointless ignition module melted. A common issue with EVO's. Replacing the module should be an easy fix.
I guess the module could melt and prevent the engine from turning over.

It's not starting. It's close like it wants to.
Change the ignition sensor plate. You have a 32404-96 (OEM Part N°) as far as I know you can put on the earlier style as well (32404-90). Or maybe even earlier... A lot of those melt. My '93 Tour Glide had started to melt but I caught it on time. My '87 softail still has the original and is looking good. I think Harley changed suppliers and the newer ones had more problems.... maybe. Anyone correct me if I'm wrong....

That's different then not turning over. The engine is turning but not starting. Your problem is obvious - ignition module melted. Easy fix.
I guess it is could be possible to melt the ignition module so the engine wouldn't turn because it drives off the cam?
I'll bet 10 month old Deka Battery is still GOOD.

Consider dyna 2000i nose cone ignition as a replacement for the stock unit. Better advance curves and gives the option of switching curves, or going single fire. Can also program custom curves. Shop around.
