The great thing about these bikes is almost everything can be fixed with simple hand tools.

I might try to get the price down to $5,000 but if it is not butchered with bad mods or bad wiring, I would still buy it at that price for your location.

Check the date on the tires. Look for riveted timing cover. Check battery, battery cables, and brakes. The main thing about the brakes is after you buy it, ride it a lot near your house, using the brakes a lot so they get hot. The intention is to look for calipers sticking once they get hot.

I almost forgot to mention to check the rubber engine mounts.

Bike looks great btw.

I bought a 1996 RK new. Rode it home. Installed a EV27, worked the carb and installed a Thunderheader. That bike gave me many fun, trouble free miles. Should of never sold it. Good luck with the purchase.

My EVO was a garage queen for 10 years before I got it. One thing that happened pretty quick was the rocker cover gaskets started spraying oil all over the place. Keep an eye on that once you start riding.

Well...update time. Got to the car dealership (it is on consignment there), looking over the bike and the first thing I see is that it is fuel injected. That makes the purchase a non-starter to me. Don't wan to deal with the early fuel injection, or negotiate a lower price, or buy it and strip it out to replace with a carb. Not exactly how I though I would be spending the day but it is what it is. Not the car dealership's fault, they were merely acting a the bridge. The sales person was extremely apologetic and have no knowledge of HD bikes. Dealership is a small local business in a small town in the Gold Country. He was only relaing me information I had asked about and provided information from the owner of the bike. Not sure why the owner said it was a carb'd bike when it is not (heck even the air cleaner cover says it is fuel injected).

And the beat goes on...

Thanks for all the replies..

That's kind of a bummer. I was looking forward to you getting it.

Alas.

Your next bike is out there somewhere.

I thought the same thing about the EFI when I bought my '96 RK. It's been over 8 years now and only had to replace the usual culprits, head temp and cam position sensor. The rest I've done cause it's mine.

The cable for the enricher is due for a change . For now the HD work around a close pin works. I have always warmed it up before beating on it , no base gasket leaks ever.
there is something about how the EVO feels when you ride that is like a drug.
I really feel your comment as mine because I agree 100% with you!

When my EVO vibrates, I take the ironhead out for a spin, then the EVO doesn't vibrate anymore.
