I've always pulled the cylinders off and left the pistons on the rods. You'll ruin the "C" clips trying to get them out of the wrist pin grooves. they're not "Snap Rings" There's a special tool that reinstalls the NEW "C" Clips, you can't reuse them. Drop one and it's a whole new ballgame...There's a reason they call them Jesus Clips.
Cut a couple lengths of rubber hose to slide down over the engine case studs to keep the pistons from banging into them while you rotate the engine to get the other cylinder off.

There are a couple different types of piston ring compressors. You local auto parts store or motorcycle shop might rent you one when your new gaskets are in place and you're ready to go back together.
Get a friend to help you. Take your time. Keep things clean, lots of clean shop rags, you'll be fine.
PS: If you're using synthetic oil, go back to using regular petroleum oil and ride it for a month. The leak might go away...(Smiles)
