Default Evo Softail Rear Shock Mount

I've installed loads of different lowering kits back in the 90s. I just can't remember the thread sizes and lengths and if I can modify a newer stock shock from a twin cam to fit mid 90s Evo

My question is, are the main stock rear shock BODY itself identical BETWEEN say a 1995 softail and a 2005 twin cam.

For instance..can I buy a pair of 2005 twin cam shocks, remove the newer style mounting studs and replace them with older style Evo eyelets and install on 95 era softail.

Remove the newer studs here

Install the old eyelets and put on a 95 softail.

In my mind its pretty much a straight swap. I can get a much newer shock from a twin cam and replace my old evo worn out shocks

Anyone done this ? Even if the thread size or pitch was different, I could even swap the entire round backing plate

Thanks for your consideration. Again I can instantly get loads of poor and incorrect advice from the FB crowd but consider you all and HD forums far superior for advice

No I haven't, but I would think the shaft sizes are different.. If anything I would cut the rear shaft to proper length run a sure down it and attach a jam nut and female Heim joint unless you can locate the proper adjustable bushing.. The only other choice is the Progressives 422's and they tend to run stiff..

Default It worked !

Yes I Did actually. Took shocks from an 05 softail. Used stock front mounts and used eyelets from a white bros lowering kit. New cheap shocks that lower or raise straight from a twin cam to an Evo softail.
