Thanks for that so to put it in my terms (such as they are) the 27 will require more gear changes than the 13 - if that is the gist of it then I can live with that. My "long haul riding days" are pretty much over anyway. I mainly do day and half day rides now.

Change out the ignition to a Dynatek2000i while your in there.
I did the exact same upgrades you’re planning. It was pretty simple. Took longer to gather the parts and tools than it took to do the upgrade.
I forgot to mention that you’re probably going to have allot of deceleration popping. I couldn’t get the CV dialed in so put on a Mikuni and just installed lollipops in the Bigshot Staggered.

The EV13 pulls strong right above idle, the 27 comes in around 2800 like hot rod mentioned.Gear changes depend on your speed.

On the face of it, I should have gone with the 13 I think - oh well, live and learn. I'll install the 27 and see how it goes for awhile, if I have to change it for the 13 down the road - then so be it I guess.

Do not give up on the 27 just yet.

If you just like to stroll along then the 13 would work better.
But if you like to rev it up now and then, and like the surge when the cam starts delivering then the 27 is your game.

I read of folks going from 13 to 27 and others changing from the 27 to the 13.

I'm no cam wizzard but have understod that there are many roads to reach nirvana.

It would be interesting to read the result when you are done with the installation and all settings.

Thanks and at the moment, I have the 27 sitting on my porch so I think I will go with it as I have it and will see how it works for me. I wish I had have had a better understanding of the difference between them before I chose instead of choosing based on what others had/liked and that suited their riding. I should have looked into them more before I chose ... either way though, either cam will be an improvement

Anyway, the mechanic I have has agreed to let me "help" (or hinder as the case may be) doing the Air Cleaner and Exhaust; as such, we will be doing that out of business hours on Saturday morning in two weeks time.

I know it is being done a bit **** backwards because those components will have to come off to do the cam work but my wife wants the exhaust and stuff off of the porch - which is fair enough - and the cam work wont be done until the riding season in the N/E is over so probably Oct/Nov this year.

The idea of changing the ignition was raised earlier in this thread and was something that I considered, but rejected, because I was told it wouldn't make any difference to anything. I couldn't see the point in spending $300 plus on something that wasn't going to be any better than the stock ignition.

Evidently I was misled (again) - so in simple (I'm a moron) terms - what would putting in a Dyna2000i ignition do? What sort of improvement could I expect? Is that improvement (if any) worth the $300 plus price tag?

It gives you options that the stock ignition doesn't. Like changing firing curves, changing a dual fire to a single fire. And your ignition is due to melt soon.
