Default Final decision

100% of what I want done to the bike will be done by a local Indy Shop on the 14th of Jul. So, by the 18th I should have what amounts to a 97 Softail Heritage Classic with a Stag 2 engine

Well, it was ALMOST the final decision ....... I got told that due to some idiotic NY noise law shops couldn't install non stock exhaust systems without risking loosing their licenses or some such garbage. IF that is true, and I don't want to take any chances, I was introduced to a bike mech who said he would do the install "off the books".

So, I might just have the Exhaust and Air Cleaner on the bike tomorrow with the cam work being done by the shop on the 14th. The only downside to that is the exhaust has to come back of so it might cost me a second set of gaskets

For those who have become completely lost with this upgrade (like me) here is pretty much what is being done:

You won't need new ones if they were just mounted up and not run very much, if at all.

What happened to the guy who was coming by to do the work at your house?

Thanks Griz -

Ahh yes, the guy who was going to ......... well, lets start at the beginning. When I was told about this guy, by his "boss", I was told he was going to call me over the coming weekend (go back in time for that) so we could discuss things. I sat around all weekend and nothing - that should have told me something. So I tried calling him at his work, left numerous messages and nothing again. You'd think I would have seen the light by this wouldn't you. Finally, I had my wife call and ask for him to call her back. Later that evening bingo - he calls and asks for my wife...........

Anyway, I talk to him and expressed my disappointment about waiting all weekend for nothing. He apologized but claimed he had a water leak or something - still a bit confused why he couldn't find 5 minutes to make a phone call. Anyway, his only concern was whether I had a tool kit and where I could buy one if I didn't. Oh, he also sounded a bit miffed when I told him I wanted the work done as soon as possible as I had everything sitting on the porch - purchased AFTER I was told he would do the work by the way. So by the end of that phone call he said he'd call me back with a date/weekend to do it and that it would only take 4 - 5 hours to do so no big deal.

A week goes by and I hear nothing from the guy AGAIN, so I email him and ask what is going on. His reply was simply this and nothing more - "I'm a busy man." end of story. I told him to shove it and not to bother and went in search of someone else.

Unfortunately I didn't find anyone who was willing to help me but did (finally) find a couple of shops willing to do the work with my parts - which was the main issue. So, as said above (previous post) one shop is going to fit the exhaust and air cleaner while another is going to do the cam work. And to explain that - one shop can do the engine work next month while the other can't do it until Sep/Oct at the earliest.

That's too bad on him flaking, but you may have dodged a bullet anyway.
Good luck on it and hopefully it'll be painless.

Yeah, I think your right when you say I might have dodged a bullet - it pissed me off as I wont be involved with the installs now, BUT at least it will all be done properly by accredited bike and harley mechanics.
