I'm researching a mild cam for the 97 FXWG I just picked up. it's pretty low miles and really quiet. I used to run the EV27 in my other EVO's but I remember it being a little noisy, ran great! I've been away from this engine long enough I thought I would ask and maybe there is no upgrade that is quiet? If I'm going in to replace the cam bearing I would want to do breather, lifters and maybe a mild cam. I figure lots of knowledge and experience on here. Thanks
Check out comp cams V-thunder cams. The ramps are not as steep as some of the others. So that translates to less valve train noise. Its one of the reasons I chose mine and they are still great performers.
Like the other cam manufacturers, they offer different cams based on what your preferred riding style is.
Its an evo so not going to be totally silent, but you can still get them to sound pretty quiet.
That and lifters/pushrod adjustment.

I've installed EV46's in a few bikes, all were quiet, but needs a compression bump to really shine, works good on bikes like your FXWG, pulls hard and long.
