Default 1991 FXRS rear turn signal woe

So while riding my left rear turn signal unwound itself and disappeared unbeknownst to me, until a kindly car driver got my attention to say she had seen it fly off....rather than make a uturn in heavy traffic I just unscrewed the right one and stuffed it in a saddlebag, using hand signals the rest of the ride. I have come to find out that when the left one was spinning in the breeze and coming off, it tore it's wire causing a short which caused an arc at the connector all the way up toward the breaker panel.... I removed the turn signal wires for both left and right from the connector (and actually replaced them with fresh wire) and ran them back to the new set of lights, soldering it all together. Now when I turn either of the turn signals on, the front will flash once and the breaker will trip...until the cancel module times out and then the breaker resets. I cannot find where this problem lies and have tested with a test light....everything looks fine and even works if I hook a single light up near where the connector is/was (the original connector now only contains the tailight wiring....) and both front and rear flash together. Only when the light is mounted on the stem do I get the breaker trippage. These are aftermarket bullet light from Chris Products....I have no reason to believe either one is faulty, but I have found some new old stock Harley Bullet lights that are coming in...I am going to try those and hope that works better...If anyone knows why this is going on....please do weigh in!

Welp...they only thing I can think is that not just the connector got blown out...I need to go farther up the chain in that circuit...and look for something that is only shorted when the rears are connected.
