Default MM to Carb Wiring Question

Hello all - longtime lurker, first time poster. Converting my 1997 Road King from MM to Carb. I know this has been discussed a zillion times, but I've read and searched every known thread about this, and still have no clarity on one issue in particular, and that is the ignition wiring & harness.

It seems there is a ton of info on 99-later conversions, but the 95-98 years are hazy.

I have removed all of the original MM EFI wiring harness and associated parts. I'm intending to install a Dynatek 2000i nose cone ignition and coil... in doing so, do I need to replace the ignition harness, or can I just wire directly with the included wiring? Or another way to put it, what is required re: wiring?

I put a Dynatek 2Ki on my chopper. Just follow the wiring directions that come with it. It's all pretty straight forward. Harness side, look at the schematic for your bike. Pick up what you need from there. If I recall, the MM EFI still used a separate ignition module, and not the ECU, right?

Correct (maybe not.......the ECU gets swapped for a '97-'98 carb ECU)

Thanks for the part list - problem is it isn’t accurate for 95-98 bikes.

And yeah the ECM can do ignition alone, but I yanked it in favour of a Dynatek

Here is how I wired my '98 FLHTCUI when I converted it. I used an Ultima Ignition

You can use the wiring attached to the module, looks to be the same as posted by flhchaz on the Ultima, The white wire mentioned in your manual for 12v power is a white wire with black tracer located under the right side of the fuel tank taped in the wire harness.

Ahhh ok. That makes sense - not sure why I was thinking it was impossible without a harness
