Hi everyone I have just joined and am hopefully going to view and purchase a harley tomorrow I at the moment own a 1975 Norton commando mk3 and have been tempted by this harley but identification is becoming a problem these numbers and specs were taken from the V5 document which is in the owners name, The bike is by no means standard but I need to know what it is before I commit to it, the year is given as 1980 making it a historic vehicle the VIN no is3F61821 the engine no is DKW571085 and the cc is given as 1340cc from this info could someone please tell me what I am looking at Many thanks Chris
I dunno, Chris. My shop manual says that a 1980 VIN should me something like 2A12141J0, with 2A being the model (and 3F is not listed as a model for a '78.5 to '80 big twin,) FX's have a 60K and up next set, so 61821 would fit a FX, then a H or J for 2nd to last to designate Harley-Davidson with J for 1980, and the last digit should be a 0 for a 1980. That motor number doesn't fit either pre-1981 or post, and the motor number should match the VIN. It might be an aftermarket set. Pics would help.
The engine Vin is correct for an 89 Dyna 1340. Not a 1980. Can you get the VIN number that is stamped in the neck of the bike? It has an HSR MIK, shorter pushrod tubes that indicate adjustables, So most likely a cam upgrade as well. Looks like an FXRS.. What are they asking and does it carry a legit title.. Get the correct vin... And where are you.. I'm suspecting England and don't know what proper paperwork would be there.. but get the VIN...
