Ignition Problem
97 FLHTCUI
I changed the cam bearing this winter and a new breather gear, and buttoned it back up
Re timed the existing ignition, Compu Fire 20600, ( single fire) and started it up, just for a few seconds, maybe a minute, as it was up on the lift and not sure how steady that thing is.
Ran fine, I shut it of, and then there was a loud bang, similar to an exhaust backfire, which is what i thought it was.
Anyway now it won't start, I pulled a plug and grounded it to a head bolt, doesn't appear to be a spark, but i will test that again.
Are there any tests that can be done on the Compu fire?
I'll pull the tank so I can test the coil, any other suggestions or advice?
I changed it to a carb several years ago, and I have gas, so it's not a gas problem, which leaves spark.
Thanks.

Connect a test light (not volt meter) to ground, other end to one of the outer coil primary wires - either the black one or white one. With switch on and cranking starter, you should get a pulsing "light." Switch to the other coil primary wire and check it the same.
If neither give a light, make sure the module is getting power (red wire) as well as the coil which should be a white wire on center post of the coil primary.

Thanks will give it a try.
Got her started today.
I did some more checking since the last post and found I had spark, but it seemed weak, A new battery solved the problem.
I now have a couple of different problems, and will start a new thread, i think I know the answers, but it's good to get opinions from people who know more than me, whom are many.
Thanks for all the help.
