Default Timing Plug

What is the best clear plastic timing plug? There seems to be a lot of them to choose from. I don't want to get a face full of oil. I will use a white paint marker pen to make the timing mark easier to see.

You want one that has a long enough thread to touch the flywheel. Then back off the plug one turn. The closer it is to the flywheel the easier it'll be to see, and it wipes away oil film to some extent. Even with a really clear plug, it's really hard to see the mark.

Tried several versions, none worked well enough the plastic and cardboard didn't get laid out anyway.

Good luck.

They're more trouble than they're worth.
You're better off marking the stator cover and setting the timing through the inspection cover.
If you have one.

Just buy a full face clear plastic face shield, a disposable set of overalls, and put a plastic bag over the timing light.

^^^This^^^ works too, and being the Dem's are bringing back COVID mandates for the 2024 election, you'll get more use out of these items than you'll get from the plug.

This is the one I've used on 2 different bikes and it seems to work just fine.
