Default Another engine casting number question.

Hi guys,
I've been trying to find information online about a casting number on my Evo block, but it doesn't seem to be the standard engine number that matches the VIN number on the chassis etc.
I know my engine number, and my VIN number, but this is an additional one.

I've attached a photo of the number in question which is located on the front lower side of the block on the left-hand side. 1996 Dyna.

Is anyone able to just tell me what this number means are where I might be able to find out what it breaks down to ?
The number is : 3496019005
Thanks in advance.

Peter

I believe its a replacement block installed under warr - they had issues pulling studs in the deck and some cracked the block at the stud base right side top front

Thanks for replying.
If that's so, why is there also the original number up where it's meant to be ?
See the attached pic.

I'm With John on the warranty case, most probable.. I cannot visualize where the Odd number is located... But, If on same Side (Left Case) I would Say the MoCo was doing the right thing, putting original number on. If Right side case...welp...self explanatory huh.

If it's like twincams, there will be a matching number on the other case. I believe the number is assigned when the cases are machined as a matched set.

It was either a replacement case or a factory refurbish. 1996 was not a year for any common known issues.

For replacements, you had to take the case halves to a dealership with proof of ownership. They would send them to HD where they would stamp original numbers on a brand new set and return to dealer. It took a while on the turn around and there's several forum member who have gone that route. Maybe they can chime in if they see this thread.

Or, they had a refurbish program for a time. Dealer would send complete long block to HD where it was rebuilt to factory specs with a warranty but - that did not guarantee all (or any) new internals or that you would even get any of your original parts back but it would have original numbers

BTW, I don't think that the cases have to be replacement. The number on the side is assigned to production cases..

Heck my my 65 pan has case numbers different than the main case number..

I really appreciate the replies - thanks very much.
I don't have a problem with the numbers as such but I just wanted to know if it actually meant anything or if it the numbers stood for something.

Just for a bit of perspective of throwing one more photo which shows that both the numbers are stamped on the same block if that makes sense.

You can see the original engine number which is pressed between both the cylinders and the other number I'm talking about situated down below the oil filter.

65 might have been the first year. they were stamped in the bottom of the engincase. I do know that TCs had a special flat like shown on the pics above but were on the bottom..
