Mornin everyone. I have a 95 EG that the local rodents decided that the wiring is delicious, and a great place to hold their nightly orgies complete with morning time daycare. I pulled at LEAST a quart sized bag of acorns and shredded insulation out from between the various chewed wires.
I was finally able to locate what appears to be a complete wiring harness on fleabay. So now that I have the bike mostly apart the games begin. The donor bike had all of the bells and whistles that this EG standard does not have. Feels like this is the time to consider changing that. Besides maybe adding tunes I would love some cruise control. What does this involve? Is there anything on my bike that would hamper this upgrade?
You'll need more parts, like the controls and the box that pulls the throttle. Not sure of other details such as a light to indicate cruise is on or off.
Honestly adding Cruise could be a colossal PITA, there are interrupts from the clutch, brakes, throttle roll off, etc to disengage the control. It also interfaces to the speedometer. I've been into mine very deeply trying to fix it several times over the years. The factory service manual has a very detailed diagnostic on how it works, how to test it etc. I've had good success buying from Pinwall Cycle Salvage for those difficult to find parts. I may also have a gently used '95-96 Touring Service Manual available down at the shop.

I agree on the addition of a factory cruise ... It's a great option when installed from the factory but in your case I'd opt for a throttle lock / drag option ... Yes there is /was a throttle drag screw below the the pack that HD installed ... You might try one of these that a re a bit easier to use ... Good Luck
Rizzo, thank you for your reply. I had a suspicion it wouldn't be as easy as I had hoped. Not much of the fun stuff ever is....I ordered a new manual off of the Fleabay. Wish I'd seen your post before I did. Great prices and collection. I will def be checking out Pinwall. Always nice to have another resource! Thanks again
Uncle Larry, thanks for the idea of the throttle lock / drag option. I've never used one of these, but will def check it out. Before this bike I'd never considered any form of cruise. Now I'm a bit older, and wanna cruise a little more comfortably. This might be the ticket
I'm just curious how you knew there were mouse orgies? Did you watch? Find little rubbers? Anyway, couple of cotton ***** with peppermint oil on them will keep them out of there. Only problem is ya gotta freshen up the peppermint oil once in awhile. I do this with our farm equipment all the time. I've not tried a peppermint air freshener, so not sure that wold work, but it's been suggested. Amazon has some small packets that work the same way.
