I’m new owner of an EVO Softail with below configuration:
· Frame is from 1998, Softail Heritage Classic,
· Engine is from 1987, coming from a Softail Custom,
· Gear box is 5 speed, but don’t know which year (considering that the engine was changed ..)
I want to install an BDL open belt primary, but I need to know if the MAINSHAFT is tapered or splined. I have found on the net that the MAINSHAFT was changed in `90 (tapered to splined).
Is there any method to find out if the MAINSHAFT is tapered or splined, w/o opening the primary?
Take the 3 screw clutch cover off and post a photo of what is in there. Unless it's an aftermarket clutch, that's all any of us would need to identify the main shaft.
Thank you guys, just made the picture ... I think the clutch is the early one. Does this mean that the gear box has the tapered shaft? .... I would have preferred it to be the splined shaft ...
