97 Heritage, with Mikuni carb.

Is there an air cleaner I can use that I can easily use an external breather on?

It has AN big sucker on it currently, but the only option I see for those involves drilling and tapping the backplate.

I have a mikuni carb, intake,air cleaner and I drilled a hole in the back plate and installed a brass fitting for the breaker hose, perfect,no mess never any oil inside or out, keep my oil half quart low is key
