And does the same at this,

Bottom line, if the voltage is too low to the electromagnet to pull the plunger in far enough to make full contact across the connector bars in the solenoid to pass current through the plunger ring to the starter motor, then you can push the plunger ring in to make the contact instead.
As for problem most of the time since easy to correct low voltage problem to electromagnet of solenoid with charged battery by adding in a relay so starter switch is just working the relay, and relay is sending full power to the solenoid via the battery, the problem instead most of the time;
is the plunger ring face is burnt, the contractor bars burn away, and even hitting the button with a sledge hammer, is not going to get current across the burnt plunger ring/plasma eroded contractor bar surfaces.

So way solenoid works, is starter button is connect to electromagnet side coil and when it gets power to energize it, pull the plunger down to make contact across the two connector bars. One side of the connector bar is connected to the battery postive, and the other side is connected to the starter motor, and this system work for high amperage applications of contacting control, since most relays are not rated for this kind of amperage through them isntead.
